Scarecrow Snack Mix

Scarecrow Snack Mix

It’s Fall, y’all! When the leaves start to change and the fall days are crisp, our Scarecrow Snack Mix is exactly right for the season. The flavors make you want to pack up for fall adventures such as apple picking, tailgating, hayrides and bonfires.

Happy Fall Y’all

Happy Fall Y’all

The Scarecrow Snack Mix can be customized based on your taste and preference. It is so fun to gather up all of the ingredients (I do this over a few weeks) and see what kind of harvest related candy is available at the market. Try to choose colorful and flavorful snacks- a mix of salty and sweet usually balances each handful. The options are endless!

If you have dietary concerns, you can easily adjust this recipe for allergies, vegan or gluten free restrictions, just watch out for all of the labels.

Tempting Ingredients

Tempting Ingredients

Our Scarecrow Snack Mix starts by setting out all of the ingredients and unwrapping what you need first. To assemble, think about making a lasagna. First, pour an even layer of each: pretzels, whole wheat square cereal, teddy bears or animal crackers, cheddar crackers and pecans. Next layer the semi and white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips. Finally, place the pumpkin mellowcreame, candy corn and sandwich cookies on top. Mix carefully by hand all of the ingredients. Mix carefully by hand all of the ingredients. Try not to sneak a bite! You may want to save a few colorful items for the very top when the Scarecrow Snack Mix is first opened.

Grab a Cup and Dig In!

Grab a Cup and Dig In!

The Scarecrow Snack Mix is a quintessential make ahead snack for summer! AND you can easily double the batch.  Buy a large wood bowl or sealable snack container, fill it up with bring it along.

Bonus- make Scarecrow Snack Mix Brownies! Prepare brownie batter according to the box’s instructions. Stir in 1 cup of the Scarecrow Snack Mix to the brownie batter. Place in the baking dish. Top with 3/4 cup of the Scarecrow Snack Mix and bake as directed.

  • Half of one 12 oz. bag of square pretzel snaps, pretzel shapes, honey whole wheat nuggets or rod pretzels, depending on preference
  • Half of one 12 oz. box of cinnamon rice or whole wheat square cereal
  • One 14.5 oz. bag of chocolate, honey or vanilla teddy bears or animal crackers
  • 1 6.6 oz. of mini cheddar crackers
  • 1 cup of pecans, halved
  • One 12 oz. bag of semi-sweet, milk or dark chocolate chips, depending on preference

Instructions

  1. Open contents of all ingredients.
  2. In an oversized clean rectangle food storage plastic container, 1.5 gallon or larger, begin to assemble the ingredients almost like a lasagna.
  3. First, pour an even layer of each: pretzels, whole wheat square cereal, teddy bears or animal crackers, cheddar crackers and pecans. Next layer the semi and white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips.
  4. Finally, place the pumpkin mellowcreame, candy corn and sandwich cookies on top.
  5. Mix carefully by hand all of the ingredients.
  6. Using a large plastic cup, disseminate ingredients into goodie bags or smaller containers.

Notes:

• If you have dietary concerns, I found one brand of candy corn and pumpkins that are made in a peanut and tree nut facility. You can make this recipe vegan or gluten free too; just watch out for all of the labels. • Get creative, adjust the ingredients to suit your personal taste! Try different cereal, cookies, nuts, caramel bits, fall jellybeans and peanut butter coated chocolate drops. Note, the jellybeans will fall to the bottom, so add the candy last. • The mix makes approximately two-three 64 oz. large food storage plastic containers, depending on your selections. • Use clear 6x9 treat bags tied with brown and white ribbon for parties. • Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to a month.
